Multi-Culture: a description of Esch-on-the-Alzette

Luxemburg’s second largest city will be in 2022 Europe’s cultural capital. There are more than 170 nationalities in a city of over 100.000. Esch was due to its proximity to the near french borders and the transnational river Alzette more in touch with intercultural connections than most other cities in Luxemburg. Many immigrants came, at first from Italy and Poland, to work for the steel industry who florished in Luxemburg over hundred years, until it suffered its decline in the 1980s and 1990s. Afterwards, the hard working people of this city left behind a business and commerce sector, who is flourishing while including many foreigners in the economy.
