French President Emmanuel Macron wants a more powerfull and sovereign European Union who should be free and master of its destiny, as well as more diplomatic connection between the African and the European Union. This are two major geopolitical themes: robust towards rivals and in the same time making new friends as Africa’s power and welth are growing.
To legitimise an european future, Marcon spoke about the european past: ancient Greece, ancient Rome, the renaissance and the enlightment should be cornerstones of the european heritage. Historians are speaking about the idea of „european exeptionalism“; this is meant in a positive way, because Macron wants to build the future of Europe upon it best parts of his History. Ironically the European Union was founded to cut Europe from its atmost unglorious past.
A further irony is the fact that Macron wants to fight socio-economic inequalities. A neoliberal capitalist, he is sometimes ready for surprises. I hope he coud at least surprise me in a positiv way two or three times in the six next mounths where France preside over the Council of the European Union. Macron seeking for its reelection he could have further difficulties to achieve his dream to change the European Union.
