Self-management (french: autogestion / german: Selbstverwaltung)

Could a corporation or a state be more democratic? Rather no or only very limited, because there are too many obstacles like cultural authority, lazyness and egoism which make a more participatory process of decision unlikely unless there are (kinds of) pressure groups pressuring politicians.

In todays world peoples are more and more happy with populist leaders; even young people, who are often unsatisfied or anxious about their future. The social structure are developping more and more toward strict hierarchy in many countries. Empires or (con-)federations are emerging around the globe, which could limit the individual needs of persons or local communities. Even big corporations are more and more plutocratic and less and less democratic. In this case freedom must be redefined: which are these individual, social and political freedoms we have rights to claim according to the Universal Declation of Human Rights ? The Western World will probably have to do important decisions which should prove its loyalty towards its values.

In the case of self-managing communities or corporations we could experiment in some countries which establish such concepts little by little and afterwards draw some conclusions. Self-managed companies are rather rare in a global hierarchy of interdependant incorporations, but may have more and more relevance when a country decides to be more economically autark or also self-sufficient.
