In our age and time it seems we define ourself not anymore through actions and work, but through our mental state of mind. With this comes a new kind of identity politics, where essentialism takes an increasingly irrational importance and social division are deepened. Collectivity, solidarity and social coherence must be reinvented. Social norms must be fixed explicitly and through consensus.

According to Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, as I unsterstand him, a thing is identical when X has the same content(s) or element(s) as Y. The principle of identity is one of the first laws of logic, like the law of the excluded contradition. After the lectures of the works of the logicians A. N. Whitehead and W. V. O. Quine I am willing to write an essay which should lay the groud for my theses about (self-)identification(s) of human beings.
