Ukrainians as the new Harkis?

Ukraine should pressure its allies and partners massivly for the next mounths and manace them that they should not use them or let them down like their other former allies and partners. I mistrust german chancellor Scholz and french president Macron to be really loyal toward their wows to help Ukraine. It seems that the two leaders still fear dictator Putin or hope to make business with Russia directly after the war, even if Ukraine risk to be partitionated or occupied.

In winter 2022 or summer 2023 there will be maybe a ceasefire when both sides are too weakened to continue. If the war will go on until the end of this decade, then both countries, Ukraine and Russia, will not recover the following decades and both will loose everything. There must so be a diplomatic solution to this conflict, but first and foremost one which is acceptable toward the Ukrainian people and not any foreign powers. As of French descent I remember the drama of the Harkis, those Northern Africans supportive of France during the Algerian War and after the war often killed and abandoned by France’s authorities. The Ukrainians should therefore even go to so far as to denounce false friends in all international organisations and pressure the triators to pay for the recovery of post-war-Ukraine. Macron and Scholz should stand by their descision and values and not plays ambivalent games during or after the war.

„As long as it takes“ was the official response of many allies on how long they would support Ukraine. If this war would last a few years it is not unlikely that many western nations would loose faith in an ukrainian total victory i.e. the reconquest of all occupied territories. Some americains even fear that a total, not partial, defeat of Russia could trigger a russian civil war with unpredictable consequences. I believe we should give Russia an ultimatum: if they do not accept to retreat form occupied territories, we will invest in a war economy doubble down the support towards Ukraine, even send non-western pro-ukranian mercenary troops and support worldwide the oppositions which are rivals towards pro-russians governments. The last thing we could need is to be more bullied by a tyrant with nuclear weapons. A russian civil war is unlikely, it is much more a question of how and when a coup d’Etat would take place, like in other dictatorships. There are far more fascistoids on the top of the russian ruling regiment than in the italian governement and its administration alltogether. The Putin-system is akin to fascism, which means that the worse kinds are ultra-fascists who would make a thermonuclear war more likely. Towards those atmost violent political extremists and fanatics, who want an even more brutal foreing policy, a more authoritarian chief of state and govenrment and even genociadal – including the use of of the atomic bomb – policy, I see no other choice then to arrest them before they could do more damange. If these (ultra-)fascists even plan a coup, then this is not an russo-russian affair, like all those with an imperialist policy. Ergo, the West has to support anti-fascists like the rest of the world too an so avoid an international conflict – to put it mildly.
